How comment moderation works. Set your rules once. Check in when you like.

  1. Switch on the rules you need, add your own blocked words and choose posts, ads or both. Try a comment first, and Alto shows whether it would be hidden and why.

  2. Each new comment is checked against your rules, and the ones that match are hidden from view. A hidden comment never gets an AI reply or a campaign DM.

  3. Hidden comments wait in your inbox with the reason, like spam or a blocked word. On Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, unhide anything you want back in a tap.

What is comment moderation?

Keeping your comment section useful by removing spam, scams and abuse, so followers and buyers see the real conversation. Alto does it automatically with the rules you choose, and you can step in from the inbox at any time.

What can Alto hide?

Spam and scams, profanity, negative comments, links, email addresses, phone numbers, mentions, hashtags, images, emoji, one-word comments and any words you block. You can also describe a rule in a sentence, like “hide comments asking for free samples.”

Does Alto hide or delete comments?

It hides them by default, so nothing is lost. On Instagram and Facebook you can choose to delete matching comments instead. Deleted comments can’t be recovered, so Alto asks you to confirm before it starts deleting.

Can I undo a hidden comment?

On Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, yes: unhide it from your inbox, where every hidden comment is listed with its reason. Deletions are permanent, which is why hiding is the default.

Does it moderate ad comments?

Yes. On Instagram and Facebook, moderation can cover your ads, your posts or both, so the comments you pay to attract stay clean.

Will it hide real questions or complaints?

Keep your rules focused and it shouldn’t. Alto’s AI reads each comment in context, and you can test a comment before switching a rule on. If you’d rather answer complaints than hide them, leave negative comments visible.

Can I block or ban people?

On Facebook, block a profile from your Page right in the inbox. On YouTube, you can ban a viewer from your channel as you hide their comment. Alto never blocks or bans anyone on its own.

Does moderation work with AI replies and comment-to-DM?

Yes. Moderation runs first, so a hidden comment never gets an AI reply or a campaign DM. Everything else carries on as usual: questions get answered and keyword comments still get their DM.

Is automatic moderation safe for my account?

You sign in through each platform’s official login, so Alto never sees your password, and it only acts on comments under your own posts and ads. Every hidden comment is listed in your inbox, so you can check its work.

Is there a free plan?

Automatic moderation is part of Pro. On Alto’s Free plan you can still hide, unhide and delete comments on your Instagram and Facebook posts yourself, from the shared inbox.
