What is Story-to-DM automation?

It sends a private message to people who reply to or react to your Instagram Story. Ask viewers to reply with a word like DROP, and Alto answers in their DMs with the link, code or invite you promised.

How do I automate replies to my Instagram Stories?

Connect your Instagram professional account, then choose a live Story, your next Story or any Story. Pick a keyword or any reply, write what Alto should send and turn it on. On paid plans, the Alto assistant can draft it for you to review.

Can Alto reply to Story reactions?

Yes. Set the campaign to answer any reply or reaction, and a quick emoji reaction starts the DM just like a written reply. Keyword campaigns answer the replies that contain your word.

Do people have to reply with a keyword?

No. Alto can answer any reply or reaction to the Stories you choose. On Pro, AI can pick out the replies you describe, like questions about price or sizes.

What happens when my Story disappears after 24 hours?

The conversation stays in their DMs, so Alto can keep answering, send a reminder and save their email. Choose “any Story” and every new Story you post is covered as well.

Can I collect emails from Story replies?

Yes. Alto can ask for an email before it sends your link and add each new subscriber to Klaviyo, Kit, Beehiiv, Flodesk or a list in Alto. Phone numbers work too.

How is Story-to-DM different from comment-to-DM?

Comments are public, so comment-to-DM also replies under the post. Story replies are already private and land in your DMs, so Alto answers right there and can heart the reply first.

What if someone mentions me in their Story?

Alto can answer that too. A Story-to-DM campaign set to any interaction responds to mentions, and Alto’s Story mention replies are made for thanking the people who share you.

Is Story reply automation safe for my account?

Yes. Alto connects through Instagram’s official API with your permission and never asks for your password. It only messages people who replied to your Story, and a reply of STOP turns its messages off for that person.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. Story-to-DM is included in Alto’s Free plan, with keyword and any-reply campaigns. AI targeting, AI agents and follow-up sequences are part of Pro.
