Add the messages you’d send yourself: a nudge for someone who’s gone quiet, a reminder about a link, a question with buttons like “Book a call” and “Not yet.” Each answer can lead to its own next message.
Pick your follow-up in a comment, Story, Live or keyword campaign, and it begins once that campaign’s DM goes out. Your AI agent can start it too, when a chat reaches its goal.
Alto skips any check-in that no longer fits, like a nudge for someone who already replied. Once they book a call or reply STOP, their follow-ups end.

What is follow-up automation?
It sends your next message for you when a conversation goes quiet. You write a few check-ins once, and Alto sends each one when it fits, skips the ones that no longer apply and stops when the person books or asks you to stop.
How do I set up automated follow-ups?
Write your check-ins in Alto as a follow-up sequence and publish it. Then switch it on in a campaign, so everyone who gets that campaign’s DM joins it. The Alto assistant can also draft the sequence for you to review.
What can a follow-up message include?
Text, photos, video, voice notes, links and buttons people can tap. On Instagram and Facebook, a follow-up can also share one of your own posts or Reels.
What happens when someone replies to a follow-up?
Their reply lands in your Alto inbox, where your AI agent can answer it in your voice or a teammate can take over. Check-ins meant for people who went quiet are skipped, and you can stop the follow-ups for one person at any time.
Does it stop following up when someone books?
Yes. When someone books through your connected Calendly or Cal.com, Alto ends their follow-ups. If someone replies STOP or unsubscribe, every automated message to them stops too, and your team can still reply by hand.
Can follow-ups change based on what people tap?
Yes. Add buttons like “Book a call” and “Not yet,” and each choice can lead to its own next message. A tap can also add the person to a list or start a different follow-up.
Which campaigns can start a follow-up?
Any Alto campaign: comment-to-DM, Story replies, Story mentions, Lives and keyword DMs. A button in your first DM can start one too, and so can your AI agent when a conversation reaches its goal.
Will automated follow-ups feel spammy?
Not if you keep them helpful. Alto only follows up with people who reached out to you first, each person goes through a follow-up once, and check-ins that no longer fit are skipped. Give every message something new, like a tip, a time or an offer.
Can AI write my follow-ups?
You write the check-ins, so every follow-up says exactly what you want. The Alto assistant can draft them for you to edit first, and when people reply, your AI agent can answer them in your voice.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Alto’s Free plan covers comment-to-DM and keyword campaigns. Follow-up sequences, with their check-ins, buttons and AI replies, are part of Pro and aren’t included in the one-time UNLIMITED package.
